July Update on Bodie (above playing with a friend)

After months of special care and physical therapy, Bodie is walking again. Despite his permanently arched back, Bodie can walk and trot and smile again. His perseverance and positive attitude has been an inspiration to us all, and the generous help we have received ensured a bright future for the pup that stole our hearts.

Special thank you to Bodie's foster parents for putting their heart and soul into his recovery. Bodie's foster parents have decided to adopt him and give him the life and home he has always wanted. Bodie now has a doggy sister and two loving parents, plus grandparents who spoil him!

Special thanks to MEDVET Columbus for all their help and support throughout Bodie's recovery. The staff and Veterinarians did an incredible job helping him recover...and we heard that they regularly gave Bodie peanut butter! No wonder he looked forward to his visits!

Bodie's initial posting and story

DogSOS is reaching out to the community to ask for your support. Due to an unimaginable tragedy with one of our much loved foster puppies, Bodie, 4 months of age, we needto ask for your help...

After having left her home for just half a day, his foster parent came home to find that her foster puppy (Bodie), had attempted to break out of his crate. Tragically, he got his body half way out and got caught in the door, he lost energy and could no longer move. The door jammed on his lower abdomen. His foster Mom found him in shock, blooshot eyes and cold limp legs... He was rushed to MedVet Columbus and diagnosed with trauma, internal bleeding, and paralysis of the lower body.

After substantial time in intensive care, Bodie's only chance to recover from his paralysis is to undergo intensive physical therapy and possible corrective surgery.

His medical invoice is currently ~$3000 and is projected to be between $4500 and $8000 dollars

Needless to say, we are heartbroken over this terrible accident and we wish to do everything we can to save Bodie.

Bodie's foster home reported that even under his condition, Bodie responds with tail wags and kisses for his human friends and is trying very hard to stand up. His spirits are good, he is a fighter and we know he can pull through with our help and yours. The Vet asked us to consider that puppies have a much better prognosis for recovery from such trauma, as opposed to adult dogs.

In this time of terrible pain and grief, we are pleading for your financial support to help Bodie walk again. Any monetary contribution, be it small or large, would be so very appreciated, as we are truly a donations based organization, with very little funding outside of people's generosity. Donations to help Bodie can be made via our website at www.DogSOS.com or by mailing checks addressed to:

April 9th UPDATE on Bodie

After weeks of special care and physical therapy, Bodie is touching and even somewhat standing on his back legs. He holds the majority of his weight on his front legs and gives the appearance that he is "tip-toeing" with his back legs...it's very cute! His spine is still very arched and his back legs are held straight and do not bend much... but he is building muscle in his upper body, gaining his weight back and slowly getting around.

When frustrated Bodie will growl at his backlegs to remind them that they need to continue to improve :) He is undergoing daily physical therapy with his foster Mom and visits his professional physical therapist once a week. His Veterinarian does not forsee his range of motion getting too much better, but he will continue physical therapy for several months, while he continues to grow, and then the Vet will re-evaluate his progress and make recommendations for corrective surgery.

We are thrilled at how far Bodie has come and we want to thank the people who have been kind enough to donate towards his care.
